Republicans know Donald Trump is a serial liar and a crook; they are well aware he is perhaps inarguably the most corrupt individual who has ever occupied a political post in America; they are all witnesses he has betrayed America and does not give a rat ass about the Constitution; they also know he is leading them into the path of destruction, of ignorance and yet, they are unwavering he is exactly the type of leader they want to represent them, to lead them. That should not surprise the rest of us, because Donald Trump is every bit what his supporters are like. He thinks like them, he speaks like them, he acts like them, and they can all identify with the man who gives no sh#t about destroying the nation they all pretend to love. They proved that on January 6 2021 in a macabre display of sedition. They are just like Trump.
It was Fyodor Dostoevsky, a Russian novelist in the 19th century, who explained the current state of the Republican Party in a way that no one else could possibly have succeeded “Ignorance will reach such a level that intelligent people will be banned from thinking so as not to offend the imbeciles.” It is worth repeating here what was said earlier that even if one wants to be civilized and respectful, it’s difficult NOT to concede that i) the majority of Republican constituents are ignorants who have subscribed to illogical nonsense and conspiracies ii) they are herds of imbeciles who believe their nefarious actions are righteous and will hurt Democrats; while they work to remove the very grounds they stand on, they are also destroying the very country they claim to love; courtesy of their newfound savior Donald Trump. Smart people do not engage in self-destruction. Only the imbeciles would justify actions that also harm them.
The country is in for a rollercoaster ride of democratic fall not even the forefathers could have anticipated. One needs not be a genius to read the writing on the wall regarding the future of America.
It’s not bright.
