Those tactics (lies, deceptions, conspiracy theories) are both deliberate and dangerous. It was not a mistake Trump repeated the lies about voters’ frauds for well into Joe Biden’s inauguration and beyond. It was not a mistake Republican Legislators, prominent GOP leaders (Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, John Kennedy, Ted Cruz, Chuck Grassley, you get the picture) echoed the lies about voters’ frauds in the 2020 elections. It was not a mistake Republican elected officials as well as the GOP Chair engaged in a campaign of misinformation about the outcome of the election. There were very few Republicans (Mitt Romney, Chris Christie, Larry Hogan…) who refused to jump on the Deception Bandwagon Trump was driving.
It is perhaps pointless to remind the nation how those sustained campaigns of lies by the Republicans would lead the country to what historians would undoubtedly refer to as the second darkest period in American history, the attempt to overturn an election by inciting mobs of followers to engage in acts of insurrection.
