Growing up black in the 90s my parents impressed upon me the importance of avoiding guns and gun ownership; even by legal means. That in the US there exists a systematically emplaced double standard that labels white gun owners as patriots exercising their 2nd amendment rights while black gun owners are seen as thugs and likely criminals. 

In 2020 however, Black gun owners were the fastest growing demographic of gun ownership in the US according to Jim Curcuruto, National Shooting Sports Foundation, Director of Research and Development. The election of President Trump in 2016 and the subsequent resurgence of white supremacy are directly linked to the increased interest of black Americans in firearms.
