Can God Save America From GOP Leaders?

MIAMI, FL – DECEMBER 15: An Obamacare sign is seen on the UniVista Insurance company office on December 15, 2015 in Miami, Florida. Today, is the deadline to sign up for a plan under the Affordable Care Act for people that want to be insured on January 1, 2016. (Photo by Joe Raedle/Getty Images)

Then Republican Governors did not even bother to consider the benefits the Act could provide to the residents of their respective States; they categorically refused to even accept presentation of the details of the Act to the residents who could make up their own minds. Those Republican Governors denied the residents of their States the opportunity to decide for themselves. Many paid dearly for not having the opportunity to take advantage of Obamacare. There were harrowing stories of people who lost loved ones in those states run by Republican Governors, convinced they could have saved them if only insurance companies didn’t deny them coverage because of pre-existing conditions. Republican Legislators and elected officials did not and could not make any substantive argument against Obamacare; so they resorted to a number of Machiavellian tactics to discourage the Republican constituents from requesting participation:

  • They labeled the Healthcare Act Death Panel
  • They claimed the passage of the Act would cost jobs, thus sending many to the unemployment line
  • They claimed the Healthcare Act would ruin the economy
  • They also claimed it would bankrupt the country
