Despite having placed guardrails to preserve our democracy, that was not enough. Those guardrails have been removed; today, the United States is not so different from an authoritarian regime in which everyone pledges allegiance to the leader, and go after anyone who refuses to do the same.

Legislators such as Devin Nunes, Jim Jordan, Mark Meadows, Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell have all proved that the Legislative guardrails are flawed, very flawed.

The country is indeed in a serious crisis. It is not clear whether those guardrails can ever be reinstated. One thing is clear however, there is an urgent need to revise the Constitution in order to prevent further erosion of our democracy.
