As much as we in the media may want to lay blame elsewhere, mainly to try to explain why millions of people voted Trump in office, the media was a very active participant in helping Trump to reach the highest office in the land in the most unscrupulous fashion. Today however, we must face a much bigger problem: to prevent Donald Trump from continuously portraying the media as the enemy of the country. Journalism, said Walter Cronkite, is what’s necessary to make democracy work. However flawed journalism is, any country without journalist would be ruled like a dictatorship, would most likely be run by an authoritarian. Journalists help to unveil corruptions, to question government wrongdoing and to hold elected officials accountable.
