This is not farfetched even for the United States; we’ve already witnessed how far the president has pushed the limit of the Executive Branch (consolidation of power) without being challenged, the first step taken in the early stage of an authoritarian regime. Despite the level of corruption in his administration (main characteristics of totalitarian regimes), the president continues to enjoy wide support among the Republican constituents. To make matters worse, he has the overwhelming backing of the GOP side of the Legislative Branch, the strongest sign for any dictator that he has assumed total, full and unfettered control of a government.
