The most dangerous elements of a society are those whose ignorance is perpetuated by the systematic refusal to learn and the blindfolded determination to reject the truth. Most in the Republican Party would rather wear pink glasses to argue that the sky is red instead of accepting that it is not. Here is sadly the state of the Republican Party today. Its leaders, except for a few, are fully onboard with propagating falsehoods (watch for my upcoming series “The Dumbification of the Republican Party”) and rejecting the truth or arguing against facts. They are encouraged by the perceived, immediate albeit temporary benefits (their party controls all three branches of the government) the cultivation of their ignorance brings. The 21st century writer Mike Ducheine warns us all that “Ignorance has always been a commodity of no value”
Since the election of Donald Trump to the presidency, a large section of the country – comprised exclusively of Trump’s fanatics who are continuously brainwashed by Republican talkingheads like Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly, Anne Coulter, etc. to ignore the facts – lives in a world which is dangerously different from reality.
